q&a questions

Question:
how many panels of 100 watts need to charge baterys to run a 3000 watts inverter?i have a 12 volts system.
Answer:
No wrong answers here because it depends on how many amp hours of battery storage & how much power you use. I’m in NC where we have steady sun light. I am using (2) 100w panels to charge (4) 100amp hour Weize batteries. I am on a building project and use a 3000w inverters to run 12” desalt miter saw, pancake compressor & circular saw. I have power all day & full power the next day
Question:
when it says 100 watts, is that per hour, per a number of hours, how does that work?
Answer:
Let’s do some quick math, 100 watts in full sunlight on a summer day for 6 hours is 600 watt hours input to a 12 volt 100 amp hour battery. 600 / 12 volts is 50 amp hours. If you have a 100 amp hour battery and your final voltage when the sun goes down is 12 .6 volts you have a somewhat new lead acid battery. At 12.6 volts A new battery will give you all 100 amp hours of it’s capacity by the time it reaches 12.0 volts.
A 3000 watt inverter at 120 volts produces / uses 25 amps. 25 * 60 mins = 1500 amp hrs * 24 hrs = 36000 amp hours per day to feed the monster.

q&a questions

Question:
Most reviewers pair this with the Jackery 500. If I get the smaller 240, is there any advantage in this 100 watt panel rather than the 50?
Answer:
I have a Saga 100 and an Explorer 240 — just got them a week ago. We’ve having a moderately sunny day in NW Florida and I was able to do a 100 percent charge in seven hours. Best numbers I saw on input power were 60 watts but it got the job done in real-world conditions. That said, I have found the Saga to be a bit of a pain as its 8 mm cable doesn’t work with other vendors’ 8mm cables, as it appears that the center conductor is just a mite short, which translates to “you can’t use the 30 foot extension cables from third parties” and “you can’t use the Y-cables from third parties to gang together a bunch of solar panels in cloudy weather.” If I had it to do again, I’d get another vendor’s 18v 100 watt panel.
Question:
Can this charge while you’re actively using a jackery battery powered generator? like if i wanted to use a tv off the generator and extend usage
Answer:
Yes, as long as your usage is less than the input from the solar panel, the inverter is a “pass through” device so it can be charging while in use.

q&a questions

Question:
Looking to get a solar option for charging laptops and small electronics in my van (vandweller). Would this work? or need x2?
Answer:
this kit will work way beyond that as long as you have enough batteries to hook it up to.it can charge your van battery and run 12 volt appliances through your cigarette lighter or run 120 volt appliances with an inverter that can handle the amount of watts you want to use.be careful of sensitive electronics while using a cheap inverter.you may need a sine wave inverter.i would highly recommend a good group of deep cycle batteries.the more batteries the more you can run.check out youtube for lots of answers
Question:
Can this kit be upgraded to the better controller?
Answer:
I question the respondents assessment that the charge controller couldn’t handle a 10% drop in his batteries. I’ve had this set up on my boat for 3 years and it works flawlessly. The charge controller is designed for
3 different types of batteries: Gel, AGM, and flooded. He may have chosen the wrong battery type for his controller. It’s a simple toggle up and down on the controller but if you don’t match your choice to your batteries you will destroy the batteries

q&a questions

Question:
What is a good extension cord to buy with this for more mobility from my RV?
Answer:
There is a lot of wrong and misleading info you’re getting here… It primarily depends on your controller. If you have a garbage (PWM) controller, then 25′ of 10AWG wire is your max. That puts you at 3% voltage drop. If you have an MPPT controller, you can go 55′ with 10AWG wire. Now, here’s the kicker, and the reason nobody should be buying these crappy PWM controllers; If you add another 100W panel in series to your MPPT controller, you can now use 110 feet of wire, and your voltage drop will still be 3% because you’re doubling your voltage. If you add a panel to a PWM controller, you’ll have to cut your wire length in half. DO NOT BUY PWM controllers!
Question:
Anybody know how long you can run the batter/power cable…? I’m thinking from the top of an RV to the ground +/- 12-15′. Thank you in advance.
Answer:
With 10AWG wire between your controller and battery, 30′ of wire will give you 3% drop. Only 15′ of wire could be used if you add a panel and have 200W of PV power. That’s not the best practice though. Best would be to use an MPPT controller connected as close to the battery as possible. You would then be able to use 55′ of 10 guage wire between the controller and panel, or 110′ if you double your voltage by adding another 100 watt panel in series.

q&a questions

Question:
What is the actual maximum power of this panel under real conditions, say a good sunny day, will it reach 100 Watts? I’ve read it won’t no matter what
Answer:
Hellp
Understood that most customer will think for 100w panel, they will get 100w output. But this is theoretical output udder lab condition.
With a good charge controller, under a common environment, you will loss at least 10% in performance from the panel to controller. You can loss a little if your solar panel angle is not 100% towards the sun, you can loss a little if your cable gauge size is not thick enough for the distance you run from panel to controller.
Normally, the actual output is abut 70-80 watts.
Question:
What are the measurements?
Answer:
41.8 x 1.2 x 26.6 inches, thank you
