A solar cell is a group of thin films made of silicon, and it is distinguished by the presence of negative charges on one side and positive charges on the other side, and the principle of the cell’s work is based on exposing it to sunlight, where the electrons in the cell gain energy from these rays, so they vibrate thermally and work on The bonds are broken, the electrons are released, and the electric current is generated.
How a solar cell works to generate electricity

- A connector to connect the micrometer to the cell.
- Glass bowl.
- Convection oven.
- Boiling water.

Solar cell work steps
- Metallic paper shall be cut with metal scissors, with the necessity of the size of the scissors and the volume of gas to be placed on them.
- Ensure that the copper sheet is clean of dust, oils, or any other stuck materials, which may impede the process of generating electricity, as the cleaning process is carried out using sandpaper, or it is possible to use soapy water but dry it well after washing it.
- The gas is ignited and placed at a very high temperature, and the clean copper sheet is placed on top of it, and when the paper begins to oxidize, the color of the paper will gradually begin to change, turning from red to orange, then purple, until the color in the final stage becomes black, which is the color of copper oxide.
- The black paper is placed on the gas for about half an hour, until a thick layer of copper oxide is formed, to be isolated later.
- Remove the paper from the heat, and set it aside until it cools completely, and he will notice its shrinkage with the cold.
- The copper oxide layer is removed from the paper after it cools, by placing it under running water, then rubbing it gently by hand, and being careful not to use any sharp materials or wires, so as not to affect the copper oxide layer.
- A second copper sheet is cut to fit the size of the paper that has been oxidized. The two sheets are folded, and the surface covered with copper oxide remains in the outside direction, with the need to be careful not to touch the two sheets together, and they are placed in the glass container.
- The collectors are used to connect the anode of the measuring instrument to the copper foil, and the negative electrode of the meter to the copper oxide paper.
- The container is filled with a saline solution, by dissolving two tablespoons of salt with boiling water, pouring it into the bowl slowly, and being careful not to completely submerge the two slices with water, and it is very important that the water does not approach the tongs, and so the cell is ready for work.
- The cell is placed directly into the sunlight, which will generate an electric current of about (0.5 to 0.6) microamps.
